Texture
Statement of intent:
My chosen theme is texture I will be looking at the texture on flowers and food. I aim to produce a gallery of work to demonstrate my ideas. Then select my best and worst and refine my work as I go. I will then use my best images and manipulate them on Photoshop.
At the end of this project I will chose my best photographs and I will put them in a finally gallery so they are easy to see and display my creations on Photoshop.
For my initial research I will start by looking in to several photographers who take images of flowers and fruits. I will look at the work of Andy Small, Imogen Cunningham and Lucy Shires to help me gain idea and inspiration for my shoot.
To begin with I intend to take photographs of lemons, pomegranate, broccoli and various flowers. I will also experiment using a macro lens to take close up shots as this will show the detail clearly.
I will experiment with Photoshop to help me make my photographs better by changing the colours and this will allow me to be more creative with the images I intend to create.
I will be using a Cannon camera on manual setting as this will improve my photography skills and knowledge about how to use the camera setting on manual I will learn how to use WBL and depth of field. By taking photographs on the camera I will be able to edit them on Photoshop.
I hope to learn about the camera and how to use it to capture interesting clear and detailed shots of the different textures. I see my final format as being a selection of greeting cards I could make for various occasions. I really like the idea of taking images in a natural form and contrasting them with man made objects I will be focusing on the colours that I capture.
When I was given the theme texture my initial thought were that I needed to get to specific location rather then taking image of just my surroundings, because this would limit my work.
I will also be researching many photographers through out my project who have taken texture pictures.
I feel like this will improve my idea while taking photographs as I will gain more knowledge about the way to take pictures such as the angles lighting and this will help me with my camera settings.
I will try push myself to be more creative within my photography work as this will help me to make a better, more creative and improve my final outcome. I would like to create greeting cards using the photographs that I have taken and manipulated on Photoshop.

Context
"Andy Small was an artist before he became a photographer, and his time spent painting and drawing has had a profound influence on his photography, with his ‘painterly’ style earning him the distinction of being one of the UK’s most original flower photographers. Since he and his wife designed their first garden, flowers and plants have become the inspiration for his art, their prolific cottage garden providing him with most of his subjects. He runs flower photography workshops for the Royal Horticultural Society, gives talks on his photography to clubs and societies, and sells his prints and canvases to order.
Andy says… I’ve created my own coloured backgrounds by handpainting sheets of glass; this enables the background light to shine through for a bright background. "

Composition
This title is cornflower, this is because of its colour and that it is that type of flower. The work was made for all and has a mixture of colour. The colours I see are blue, white, green and pink. These colours are bright and cool, when I look at these colours I think of the sky. The textures are spikey on the body of the flower. In the background is a mixed colour of blues. The flower is in the foreground. The picture is a still life of a real flower, but I didn't think the colours were real at first. I thought it was fake and that he hade made it.
Andy Small has used manual settings and has created a close up. It is a central focal point. I think the petals makes a wavy leading line that goes to the middle of the flower. I think he has used a small aperture such as 5.6 because the background is blurry. The framing is using up all the space. The light is coming from the right and is a spot light. I would prefer less light and for it to be more clear. I think he has used a tripod because its so close and the colour is coming out. He hand paints the background on glass this is what creates the uneven spread of paint, which I think results in a more interesting texture.

Connection
His work connects to mine as I will be capturing texture and his work focuses on natural texture but in a modern style. I may use his work for inspiration as I like how he uses contrasting colours to capture the natural form he is photographing.
Comment
I like Andy Small's work because of the colours he has used and how he creates an image that does not look real at first because of how bold and detailed it appears. I also like how he has used glass to create his background as he is still using natural light but it only comes through on the sections he has painted lightly. I also like how he has used a small depth of field in his work as this creates the blur effect in te background.

Facts about Lucy Shires
Lucy shires is the British photographer artist . ''Specialising in capturing textures and urban abstractions. After leaving the industrial North West, she travelled across Europe, documenting urban entropy in hidden, abandoned places across the continent''. Her mother is an inspiration taught her to be free and to love freely. most importantly to taught her to create the image.
In this picture I can see a shutter which is close up. I can see lots of circles in black. I see long lines that straight, that come forwards towards me. The lines are bumpy and grey. These things make lots of patterns in the photo. On the left it is dark and in focus and the right is light and blurry. A lot of her work is show a clear of texture. She looks at man made textures and natural textures. This piece doesn't have a title. She takes these photographs to to show us how textures can be interesting. This a realistic picture but because it close up it looks belter.
They are strong leading lines in the same direction on a a diagonal. This helps me see the picture properly. My eye goes back to to the left. Shires has used a low F Stop to create this depth of field. The lines going back create a sense of perspective. I don't think she has used a tripod, because its so close up you have to be able to move freely. I think this has been taken outside and she may have used day light for her white balance. I think the ISO is low the picture is close up and not grainy. Its hard to say if she used lighting.
I like these pictures because clear and you can see all the circles and the patterns they make. I like the different shades of grey and how they work well together. I like how all the lines meet in the same place on the left and come straight into each other. I don't like the depth of field on the left, If I was to do this Id like to keep it all in focus. This work similar to mine because we both take picture of man made texture. In the future I would like take image like her picture and create the better image.
